2023 Development Approval Timeline And Progress Report

Updated: May 12th, 2024
With a new ABC council supermajority adjusting to governing, the firing of the director of planning, and interest rates at twenty year highs, 2023 should have been a quiet year. Instead the international award-winning Broadway Plan generated a surge of activity, while master plans moved ahead for the Skeena Terrace site, and the third phase of the East Fraser Lands. However, the biggest news was the provincial housing legislation, whose impact Hannah and I can’t event begin to predict.

The spreadsheet below includes the details, and timeline for every rezoning application for this time frame from when it was first submitted up until our most recent update. This will eventually include all notable dates in the rezoning, development application, and the building permit stage, along with details about what each project sought to provide. Obviously we note when/if something was rejected or withdrawn, as well as when buildings complete construction and are ready for occupancy in a few years.

It’s important to note that each of these steps represents a negotiation between our city officials, as well as private, and/or public developers. As such, the review process can grind to a halt simply because an applicant team is unable, or unwilling to move ahead with their vision at that point in time.

You can explore this spreadsheet in detail here.

All of these addresses, and permit numbers link to Vancouver’s Shape Your City website, except for the building permit address, which are located in the city’s permit directory.

For those inexperienced with spreadsheets, you can drag the horizontal scroll button to move left and right, or the vertical one to scroll up and down. We hope you find this helpful, any appreciate any comments you may have.
