2021 Development Approval Timeline And Progress Report

Updated: May 12th, 2024
Choices have consequences, and city council’s decision to let several rental housing programs expire had severe repercussions in 2021. Activity across the city dried up as new proposals concentrated in the few places they were still allowed, like the Cambie Corridor. Other major sites like the Balfour Block, and the redevelopment of the Granville Loops won’t be finished for decades. Though whether big or small, Hannah and I will continue to track these proposals in the years ahead.

The spreadsheet below includes the details, and timeline for every rezoning application for this time frame from when it was first submitted up until our most recent update. This includes all notable dates in the rezoning, development application, and the building permit stage, along with details about what each project sought to provide. Obviously we note when/if something was rejected or withdrawn, and when things are eventually ready for occupancy in a few years.

It’s important to note that each of these steps represents a negotiation between our city officials, as well as private, and/or public developers. As such, the review process can grind to a halt simply because an applicant team is unable, or unwilling, to move ahead with their vision at that point in time.

You can explore this spreadsheet in detail here.

All of these addresses, and permit numbers link to Vancouver’s Shape Your City website, except for the building permit address, which are located in the city’s permit directory.

For those inexperienced with spreadsheets, you can drag the horizontal scroll button to move left and right, or the vertical one to scroll up and down. We hope you find this helpful, any appreciate any comments you may have.
